The design of the Barebones Felling Axe is based on 19th-century forestry cap axes and made to chop wood with great force. The head of this axe is made of lightweight 1055 carbon steel and the blade is hand-ground. This Felling Axe is super versatile and is capable of many things, such as felling trees, handling firewood or driving a wedge. The curved hickory handle makes the axe well balanced and ensures that the axe is comfortable to hold. The included sheath is made of 900D Polyester and protects the blade from becoming dull.

    Maintenance

    Axe head:
Apply a thin layer of protective oil after each use. Wipe it regularly from dirt, water and fingerprints. Use a medium to fine file to straighten larger dents or nicks in the blade. The cut can be sharpened with a medium grinding wheel or stone.

An additional steel ring wedge comes with the axe in case the head comes loose. Punch the wooden wedge into the top of the axe handle and secure it with the steel ring wedge by pounding on it until the top of the axe head is fixed and level.

    Sheath:
Waxed canvas should never be dry cleaned or machine washed. It can be carefully cleaned by hand. Brush off the loose dirt, rinse the surface with cold water, scrub it gently with a brush, then let it air dry. If stains remain, use a mild soap or saddle soap.

After cleaning, it may be necessary to re-wax waxed canvas. Use a wax conditioner and apply it according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

    FAQ
Q: How do I sharpen the blade?
A: Use a medium to fine file to straighten larger dents or nicks in the blade. The edge can be sharpened with a medium grinding wheel or stone.

    Q: Why 900D polyester?
A: 900D polyester is water-repellent, bacteria-resistant and highly durable, making it ideal for long-term outdoor use.

Q: Can I store my axe outside for an extended period of time?
A: The sheet axe is not intended to be stored outside for long periods of time. Prolonged exposure to wet conditions can cause rust and unnecessary wear. We recommend storing your axe indoors after use to make it last as long as possible and avoid having to buy a new one.
